DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team
evened its 2010 record at 5-3 with a 7-2 defeat of NCAA II Tampa on Friday. The
Eagles won two doubles and five of six singles contests to hand the Spartans their
fifth loss of the season.
Natasa Zoricic and Yi Ching Chen made quick work of Kourtney
Stark and Megan Mancini, downing the Tampa duo 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. ERAU's
Josefine Strom and Julija Stojkovska followed with an 8-2 win over Molly Welsh
and Nikol Williams to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Eagles, but the
Spartans got a point back when Briana Ryan and Ally Wooten came from behind to
top Sara Abraul and Caroline Nilsson 8-6 at the third doubles spot.
Chen was the first to finish her singles match as she
blanked Williams 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
Nilsson quickly followed with a shutout of her own, downing Welsh at the
third position. Strom scored the clincher for the Blue and Gold after taking
the first set 6-2 and shutting out Wooten 6-0 in the second.
Stojkovska also recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Mancini at
No. 4 and Zoricic closed out the Eagles scoring with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Stark
at No. 1 singles.
The Spartans' lone singles win of the day came at the No. 6
spot where Ryan held off Abraul 6-2, 6-3.
The Eagles return to the court at 10 a.m. on Saturday
morning to battle defending Sun Conference champion Savannah College of Art and
Design.
