DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team (13-3) registered its sixth shutout of the year with a 9-0 decision against Northwestern Ohio (7-4) on Tuesday.
Doubles play saw the Eagles surrender just four games as
Yi Ching Chen and
Josefine Ström downed Jamie Hamilton and Shaleigh McClintock 8-1,
Rocío Frej Vitallé and
Ekaterina Kamendova blanked Katie Whittington and Tara Carr 8-0 and
Kristina Márová and
Paola Montero bested Jessie Stambaugh and Erynn Piper 8-3.
Frej Vitallé was the first to finish her singles match at the No. 2 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Andrea Arauyo and Kamendova, playing her first match of the year at the top spot, clinched the Eagles' win with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hamilton.
Landyn Scudder improved her dual match singles record to 2-0 with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory over Whittington at No. 5 singles and
Elise Lagerstrom recorded the first dual match singles win of her career after besting Carr 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 at No. 6.
After a late-day exhibition match against Coastal Georgia on Monday, the Eagles will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they host first-year conference opponent Ave Maria.
