Froshaug’s Golden Goal Lifts @ERAUWSoccer to 1-0 Victory Over Florida Southern

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team needed 14 minutes of extra time against Florida Southern on Wednesday night before Andrea Froshaug finally broke through with the only goal of the contest. The 1-0 victory improves ERAU's record to 7-3-1 while FSC drops to 2-8-1.

"I want to give Brittany [Jones] and the Florida Southern group a lot of credit," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon said after the win. "They've been unlucky quite a few times this year, but they're a quality program and played some good soccer tonight."

"We're happy to get the result tonight," Bohon continued. "I think we should've created more opportunities with the amount of possession we had tonight, but the hardest part of this game is to score and we've been finding that out lately. I'm proud of our girls for figuring out a way to get it done and come away with a good win."

Froshaug gave the Mocs fits all night long, recording six shots, five of which were on frame, as well as the lone goal. Haaranen picked up the assist on Froshaug's goal and Olivia Lynch turned away all four shots she faced en route to her eighth shutout of the season.

The Eagles were the dominant team in the first half, though they couldn't quite find the back of the net. Annie Gelnaw had the game's first scoring opportunity, running a give-and-go with Janina Helwig to gain entry into the box where she took a shot that forced Florida Southern keeper Helena Norrstrom to make a diving save.

All told in the first half, ERAU outshot the Mocs 9-3 and earned four corner kicks without allowing any.

The second half was much of the same, with the Blue and Gold outshooting FSC 3-1 in the period. Norrstrom came up big again, making a pair of saves to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard and send the scoreless game into overtime.

In the first overtime period, both sides struggled to create many scoring chances, with each team failing to register a shot on goal. Embry-Riddle earned the only corner kick of the overtime frame, but Florida Southern's defense dealt with it and prevented a scoring opportunity.

The second overtime saw the Eagles offense come alive as ERAU maintained possession in the attacking third for a majority of the period. In the fourth minute of the stanza, and the 104th minute of the game, the Eagles finally broke through thanks to a beautiful pass from Isabelle Haaranen. Haaranen had darted past the last line of defense and into the box on the left-hand side, but was at too sharp of an angle to attempt a decent shot on goal. Instead, she slid the ball across the six-yard box, and despite a deflection off the foot of an FSC defender, the pass found Froshaug who buried it in the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Saint Leo for a 7 p.m. contest.
