The Eagles and Fire played the longest women's basketball game in NAIA history with SEU coming out on top, 96-91.
Mercedes Jorge led all players with a program-record 28 points to go along with 16 rebounds, which tied a program record, in 57 minutes of action.
Sabrina Whiting added 23 points and nine rebounds while
Taylor Cyphers tallied 10 points and 13 boards.
Kalah Martin and
Tara Fields each set season-highs in rebounding with 14 and 13, respectively.
Four Eagles are scoring in double-figures, led by
Sabrina Whiting's 13.0 points per game. Whiting also leads the Eagles with 2.2 steals per contest and is second with 2.9 assists per outing.
Kalah Martin is third on the team with 11.3 points per game and leads the Blue and Gold with 3.1 assists per contest.
Mercedes Jorge is averaging 12.3 points and a team-best 8.5 rebounds per outing and
Taylor Cyphers is just behind her with 10.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATSSt. Thomas women's basketball currently sits atop in the league standings with a 13-1 conference record and is 20-4 overall. The Bobcats are ranked 24th in the latest NAIA II Top 25 Coaches' Poll as well. STU hasn't lost since suffering a 70-67 road defeat at Southeastern on Jan. 29; since then the Bobcats have rattled off five straight victories, and have won 15 of their last 16 games.
St. Thomas shoots the ball well, ranking fourth in NAIA II in field goal percentage (.469). The Bobcats are also ranked in the top 10 in fewest points allowed (52.17, 5th), steals (13.0, 7th) and scoring margin (+19.1, 7th). Dannisha Pierce leads STU in scoring (20.1), rebounding (9.3) and steals (4.8). Nationally, Pierce is No. 1 in steals, second in field goal percentage (.593), 10th in scoring and 24th in rebounding.THE ERAU-STU SERIESThe Eagles and the Fire are meeting for the second time this season.
