DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle softball team blanked Florida Southern 5-0 on Friday night. Earning her fifth win of the year in the circle,
Kassidy Simons struck out 13.
Haleigh Lewis had the big bat of the night, hitting a grand slam home run over the left field fence. With the win, the Eagles improve to 13-6 while the Mocs fall to 8-10-1.

The Eagles then started the bottom of the inning with a leadoff walk from
Anna Battison. She then stole second base and scored on an error by Moc second baseman, Sydney Koch, allowing
Kailah Rain to reach base. Simons and Zimmerman then followed that up by each getting on with a walk. Lewis then sent a ball over the left field fence that was destined to be a grand slam as soon as it came off the bat to put the Eagles up 5-0.
The Blue and Gold had a sprinkling of other hits throughout the game but couldn't string any together to add to their lead.

Simons remained knockout in the circle to strike out at least one Florida Southern batter per inning, totaling 13 in the win for the Eagles, including the final out of the game.

Lewis led the team with four RBIs thanks to her grand slam to go 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk. Zimmerman had three walks in the game, to tie her for most in a game in Eagle program history.

The Eagles returns to the Embry-Riddle Softball Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, March 5, for a doubleheader to end the series with Florida Southern. The games begin at 1 p.m.
