@ERAUWSoccer Falls at Lynn in Overtime

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team was unable to get by Lynn (3-3, 1-0) on the road on Saturday, falling to 4-3 to the Fighting Knights in overtime. The Eagles came from behind twice to tie the game, but they were unable to secure the win moving to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in Sunshine State Conference play.

"I give Lynn and their staff major credit for their win tonight," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon stated. "They showed up ready to play and we didn't. We need to find more blue-collar attitudes within our team. We took for granted the fact that we kept creating chances and didn't finish our opportunities. Then we make the same mistake three times to allow them to score. Again, credit goes to Lynn because they played smarter and harder than us tonight."
The Eagles fell behind early when an ERAU defender was penalized for getting a hand on the ball inside the 18-yard box. Emily Weisberg converted on the resulting penalty kick to put the Fighting Knights up 1-0 at the 17:55 mark.

Following the Lynn goal, the Eagles stepped up their offensive pressure and their efforts paid off in the 35th minute. Mikayla Szalay's corner kick bounced off several players inside the box before making its way to Sophie Brundin. Brundin's header found Maria Schmiedhofer at point blank range and the sophomore headed home her fourth goal of the season to level the score at 1-1.

Less than eight minutes later, the Eagles launched a counterattack and got the ball to Ragnheidur Gardarsdottir inside the center circle. The freshman raced down the middle of the pitch and deposited her first shot of the game into the lower left corner to put the Blue and Gold ahead 2-1 at the break.

The Eagles had a few chances to widen the gap early in the second half, but it was Lynn who netted the first two goals of the frame. The first score came off the boot of Gabriela Moreira, who tied the score at 2-2 and Jamie Perriello put the Fighting Knights back in front with 21 minutes remaining in regulation.

At the 73:15 mark, the Eagles won their seventh corner kick of the contest. Rachel Owens whipped the ball into the box and an unmarked Hanna Rolfsen tapped it back across the goal and into the right side netting to record the third tie of the game.

The final 17 minutes of regulation, as well as the first overtime period produced a stalemate between the Eagles and the Fighting Knights, resulting in an additional 10 minutes of play to determine the outcome.

In the first overtime period, the Eagles had the better of the scoring chances, outshooting Lynn 4-1, but the second overtime saw the Fighting Knights with a 2-0 shot advantage, and Moreira finished the second attempt at the 105:16 mark to give the Fighting Knights the win.

The Eagles will look to return to the win column when they travel to St. Petersburg to take on Eckerd at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
