@ERAUSoftball Defeats Florida Southern 5-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team continued their seven-game homestand on Friday evening with a matchup against Sunshine State Conference foe, Florida Southern. The Eagles were in control the entire contest, defeating the Mocs by a final score of 5-1. This marked the 20th victory of the season for ERAU as the Eagles improve to 20-6 overall and 10-3 in SSC play, while Florida Southern falls to 19-8 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
 
The Blue and Gold scored early in Friday's contest, scoring two runs in the first and another one in the second. Mariana Pereira hit a two-RBI single to right to score Kailah Rain and Maggie Scott to put the Eagles up 2-0. The Eagles made it 3-0 in the bottom of the second as Lisa Hop scored on a throwing error by the Florida Southern catcher. Going into the third, the Eagles lead 3-0.
 
ERAU scored another run in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Katy Thompson RBI single to left, scoring Rain on the play. Florida Southern managed to score one run in the top of the sixth with an RBI infield single. The Eagles were up 4-1 going into the bottom half of the sixth. The Blue and Gold got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Scott hit an RBI single to right to score Destiny Carroll. The Eagles held Florida Southern scoreless in the seventh and went on to win 5-1.
 
Ilona Andringa started the game for the Eagles and she continued her dominance on Friday evening. Andringa picked her 13th win of the season as she pitched a complete game, allowed five hits, one run (earned) and struck out seven batters. Six different Eagles went 1-3 in the batter's box today for the Eagles. Maggie Scott went 1-3 with one run and one RBI. Rain hit 1-3 with a double and scored twice. Mariana Pereira went 1-3 and drove and two runs. Katy Thompson hit 1-3 and drove in one run. Peqe Lopez and Destiny Carroll both went 1-3 as Carroll hit a double and scored once. Mackie Chandler had the only other hit, going 1-2.
 
Embry-Riddle returns to action on tomorrow, March 17, to complete the three-game series against Florida Southern. It will be a doubleheader with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 1 pm.
