Crouse's Gem and Olivier's Big Day Send @ERAUBaseball to 8-2 Win Over Lynn in Series Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Cody Crouse was dominant and Luis Olivier paced an Embry-Riddle offense that scored early and added on late as the ERAU baseball team defeated Lynn on Friday afternoon, 8-2. The Eagles (13-25, 3-16) got the first complete game of the season from Crouse while Olivier fell just a triple short of the cycle against a Fighting Knight (20-21, 9-16) team that had won the previous six games against the Blue and Gold.

ERAU scored a single run in the first, second and third innings against Lynn's Daniel Nuzzi, starting with an RBI double from Olivier in the first to plate Kyle Marsh. It was the first of three runs Marsh would score on the day.

Peter Gomez started a two-out rally in the second with a double to right center, coming around to score on Jordan Hicks base hit to right, making it 2-0 ERAU.

Marsh walked with one out in the third, moving to second on a wild pitch before scoring on Zach Howard's single up the middle before Crouse delivered the third of four consecutive scoreless innings to start the contest for the visitors.

Embry-Riddle left a man on base in the fourth and fifth frames and the home team finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run, but Crouse did not allow a Fighting Knight to reach scoring position in either the sixth or seventh and Olivier gave the Eagles a boost with a leadoff homer in the eighth, his 10th of the year, pushing the ERAU lead to 4-1.

Lynn put together back-to-back one-out hits against Crouse in the last of the eighth, but an RBI ground out and another ground out, both to short, kept the Eagles in front heading to the ninth.

Embry-Riddle added some big insurance runs in its last at-bat, starting with singles from Hicks and Kyle Guttveg before Jake Malone doubled down the right field line to bring in one run. After a Lynn pitching change, Marsh singled to right, driving in both Guttveg and Malone for a 7-2 lead, and after Olivier walked, the duo pulled off a double steal and when the throw to second went into the outfield, Marsh scored for the third time on the day to push the Eagle lead to 8-2.

Crouse went out for the ninth and effectively retired three Fighting Knights to secure the Eagle win, earning his third win of the year in a complete game effort. Crouse (3-3) struck out five, allowing just two runs on eight hits on 108 total pitches.

Olivier went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Marsh drove in two on one hit with three runs and both Gomez and Hicks added two hits for the Blue and Gold.

Due to weather concerns for Sunday, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 at 12 p.m.
