@ERAUSoftball Wins Third Straight Beating Rollins 9-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team completed one game of a doubleheader against Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins College on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles won 9-2. The second game was postponed in the top of the fifth due to inclement weather as the Eagles trailed Rollins 4-2. Game two will resume play tomorrow, April 8th at 12 pm.
 
Game 1
 
The bats were electric in the early going for the Eagles, scoring eight runs through five innings. Mariana Pereira started things off, hitting a two-run line drive homer to right. Rollins cut the lead to just one after scoring due to a throwing error by catcher Katy Thompson. Going into the third, the score was 2-1 in favor of the Blue and Gold.
 
The Eagles scored two more runs in the bottom of the third with Katy Thompson executing the squeeze play to perfection by driving in Mackie Chandler and reaching first safely. Peqe Lopez knocked in the second run of the game with an RBI single to center. The Tars cut the lead to two after a solo home run in the top of the fourth. ERAU countered by scoring one run in the fourth with Kailah Rain's RBI double to left. After four innings of play, the Eagles were up 5-2 going into the fifth.
 
The Blue and Gold continued the onslaught in the fifth and sixth, putting up a combined four runs. Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Pereira in the fifth. Destiny Carroll doubled to left field to score Thompson. Carroll scored due to an error by the Tars first basewomen. Maggie Scott scored the final run of the contest as she scored on a passed ball, securing the 9-2 victory for the Eagles.
 
Jayla Jackson won her seventh game of the season after a solid outing in the circle. Jackson pitched four innings, allowed two runs (one earned), off five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Lisa Hop pitched in relief, surrendering one hit, walking two and striking out three.
 
Thompson and Rain both went 3-for-3 with Thompson scoring once and driving in one while Rain scored twice and drove in one. Pereira and Scott each hit 2-for-4 with Pereira scoring twice and knocking in two while Scott managed to score twice and steal two bases.
 
The second game was postponed in the top of the fifth due to inclement weather as the Eagles trailed Rollins 4-2. Game two will resume play on April 8th at 12 pm.
