@ERAUMSoccer Unable to Come Away With Win on the Road

BOCA ROTON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team traveled to face the NCAA D II Preseason No. 1 Lynn on Saturday Night.

The Blue and Gold played a competitive match with the Fighting Knights (4-2, 1-1 SSC), but a momentary defensive lapse was all Lynn needed to come away with a 1-0 win.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half. Neither team was able to gain a large advantage in possession. Both squads took time feeling each other out which resulted in few shots in the first half.

The first shot on goal came from Teddy West, but his attempt was wide left. With 20 minutes remaining in the half, ERAU (2-3, 1-2 SSC) received a free kick in a dangerous position. The Eagles' set piece from right outside the box led to a shot from Alex O'Brien, but his shot was blocked.

Lynn began to pick up the offensive pressure towards the tail end of the half. The Fighting Knights had four of their five first half shots in the final 15 minutes of the period. Lynn's best opportunity came when Tomer Bitton received a through ball from Stian Sanner, giving Bitton a one-on-one chance at the keeper. ERAU's Gudmundur Sigurbjornsson showed quick instincts to force Bitton's shot wide.

The pace of the game hastened in the second half. Lynn came out firing on all cylinders, picking up where they left off in the first half. The Fighting Knights started play with a quick shot, but it was saved by Sigurbjornsson.

Five minutes into the half, Lynn took advantage of a crowded box to score the only goal of the game. Nils Börner took a shot in the middle of the box that found the back of the net after going through the legs of Sigurbjornsson. That was all the Fighting Knights needed to come away with a victory.

ERAU fought to tie the game, but they struggled to overcome the Fighting Knight back line. At the 26-minute mark, Yannick Blackman sent an accurate cross into the box that brought the goalkeeper off his line. This created an open opportunity for Roberto Whitley, but he was unable to get a boot on the cross.

With 16 minutes remaining, the Eagles were awarded with a free kick at the top of the box. Teddy West went for goal, but his shot was blocked by Lynn's wall. The Fighting Knights nearly added a second goal on the counter-attack, but Blackman raced back to make the tackle and keep the deficit at one.

Olav Olsen Aamlid, nearly scored the equalizer off an Eagle corner kick. His curling shot nearly found the top-right corner of the goal, but the keeper dove to make the save. His attempt would be the last shot for the Blue and Gold.

ERAU finished with three shots in the match. Lynn held a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Eagles' next fixture will be against Eckerd on Wednesday. The match in St. Petersburg, Fla. will start at 7:00 p.m.
