TUSCULUM, Tenn. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team couldn't keep up with Tusculum's offense in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-5. The Eagles (16-7) led 4-3 in the middle innings, but Tusculum (15-10) scored six runs in the fifth and sixth to take a commanding lead and ERAU couldn't get back into it.
Despite both teams registering a dozen hits each, it was the Pioneers that took advantage. The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when
Luis Olivier plated
Kyle Guttveg with a sac fly, but a solo homer from TU in the bottom of the inning tied things up.
Robert Post gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the second with a single to left center, scoring
John Devine, but again TU answered, this time with two runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead.
Post and
Cody Forster came through in the fourth with RBI singles as the Eagles went back in front 4-3. However, in the fifth, the Pioneers plated four runs and then two more in the sixth for a 9-4 cushion.
ERAU scored one run in the ninth, but could never bring the tying run to the plate, falling 9-5.
John Barone (0-1) took the loss, as the Eagles truly staffed the game, throwing six pitchers in total. Guttveg, Olivier,
Andrew Martinez, Post and
Eric Feliz all had two hits in the loss.
The Eagles travel to West Palm Beach this weekend to take on Palm Beach Atlantic in a Sunshine State Conference series.
