Men’s Soccer Loses 3-1 to Barry

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Two successful penalty kicks by Barry in the final 15 minutes doomed the Embry-Riddle men's soccer team as the Eagles (2-6, 1-3 Sunshine State Conference) lost 3-1 to the Buccaneers (3-4-1, 2-1 SSC) on Saturday.

Things looked promising to start as Embry-Riddle jumped ahead in the 11th minute on a pinball-like play. Sandro Henning bounced the ball of his chest following a miskick by Barry. On the hop, Henning swung his leg and made enough contact to send the ball toward the net from the top of the box.

However, the Buccaneers' keeper dove and saved the shot with his right hand. The ball slowly rolled down the endline as Olav Olsen Aamlid raced after it. With his left foot, he flicked the ball off the left post, which then hit the back of Barry's goalie and deflected into the net.

The Eagles maintained the slim lead into the half, but the Buccaneers came out firing following the break. In the second half, Barry outshot Embry-Riddle 7-3 as the Eagles focused on defense.

Juan Caffaro got the Buccaneers on the board in the 62nd minute with a shot the curved into the top left corner of the goal. Caffaro tacked on two more goals, both penalty kicks, in the 76th and 78th minutes to record a hat trick and increase Barry's lead to 3-1, which held up to be the final score.

Sandro Henning led Embry-Riddle with three shots, the first time topping the team in that category this season. He also registered one of the Eagles' two shots on goal with Olav Olsen Aamlid providing the other. Additionally, Jack Crichton accumulated three saves.

Embry-Riddle concludes its three-match homestand with a rematch against Florida Tech on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Eagles last met the Panthers two weeks ago in Melbourne, Florida.
