DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Eight seniors of the Embry-Riddle men's soccer team were celebrated at the ERAU Soccer Stadium during senior night on Saturday.
Gudmundur Sigurbjornsson,
Nelson Andres Pusquin,
Teddy West,
Sergio Monteiro,
Nathan Hubbs,
Collins Maude,
Olav Olsen Aamlid, and
Ross Dickinson all played in their final match as Eagles.
Unfortunately, Embry-Riddle was unable to overcome the high-octane offense of Nova Southeastern and fell 2-0 to the Sharks.
Nova Southeastern set the tone right away when the Sharks scored on the first shot of the match in the 7th minute. Matty Cornish, the Sunshine State Conference's leading scorer, blasted a shot into the top right corner of the net from the top of the box to put the Eagles in a 1-0 hole early on.
Amit Libgot almost had a response for Embry-Riddle in the 15th.
Jack Crichton sent a goal kick to the Eagles' offensive side of the pitch. Libgot sped past a Nova Southeastern defender and reached the ball first. With a Shark chasing him, the freshman noticed the goalkeeper was far out in front of the net. He tapped the ball 20 feet in the air hoping the shot would land past the goalie and in for a score, but the ball bounced off the left post and out of play.
Later on near the end of the first half, the deficit increased for Embry-Riddle in the 42nd minute when Nova Southeastern snuck in a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal from about five feet out.
Neither offense found any success over the final 45 minutes, and the Eagles fell to the Sharks in the season finale.
Amit Libgot led the Blue and Gold with a pair of shots while both
Jack Crichton and
Gudmundur Sigurbjornsson tallied two saves in goal.
With that, the 2021 campaign ends. The Eagles finish with a record of 2-12-1 (1-8-1 SSC) in the program's first full season since 2019.
