MONTGOMERY, Alabama - The Embry-Riddle baseball team couldn't avoid a series sweep at the hands of Auburn Montgomery on Sunday, falling to the Warhawks 8-3 in the series finale. The big inning again doomed the Blue and Gold (1-5) as a five-run sixth sent AUM (4-3) to their first series sweep of ERAU since 2009.
Unlike the first two games of the series, the Warhawks scored first, plating a single run against ERAU starter Kelsey Ward in the first inning, and the Eagles struggled to get anything going against AUM starter Connor Slagle
The home team added two more runs in the third to go up 3-0 and chased Ward in the fifth before Garner Spoljaric entered to get out of the inning.
A solo home run from Daniel Trillo in the top of the sixth inning gave the Blue and Gold their first run of the afternoon, but the Warhawks knocked in five runs in the home-half of the frame, taking a commanding 8-1 lead.
Garrett Bogart joined Trillo with a two-run long ball in the seventh, and it was Trillo again doing damage in the ninth when he doubled in a run to make it 8-4, but the Eagles would get no closer before AUM closed things out.
Ward (0-2) took the loss in 4.2 innings of work, while Tyler Stufano and Tristan Harley each pitched scoreless innings late for ERAU.
Trillo went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Bogart finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Max Law also managed two hits for Embry-Riddle.
