Women’s Soccer Falls to Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – The third-ranked Embry-Riddle (8-1-3, 5-1-1) women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to Florida Southern (8-4-2, 4-2-1) 1-0 on the road. Wednesday's result was the Eagles' first loss in Sunshine State Conference play since Oct. 2, 2021, when they fell to Barry in overtime.

Florida Southern edged the Eagles 13-12 in shots, but it was the Eagles who had 5-4 edge in shots on goal and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles had the first real chance of the game in the 11th minute when a flurry of activity inside the box led to shots by Berglind Thrastardottir and Savanna Sheahan, but those attempts were blocked and saved, respectively. The teams combined for 13 shots, but strong defense on both sides of the pitch, helped by three saves each from ERAU's Oona Jokinen and FSC's Jenny Staten, led to a scoreless tie at the half.

The Moccasins bested the Eagles 4-2 in shots in the first 15 minutes of the second half and in the 62nd minute, their efforts paid off. Jasmine Adames crossed the ball into Ally Prentice whose shot took a deflection off an Embry-Riddle defender into the net to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles had a few chances to even the score, but their attempts were either just wide of the target or saved by Staten and the Moccasins were able to hold on for the one-goal win.

The Eagles will look to return to the win column on Saturday when they host Saint Leo at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. Prior to Saturday's game the four members of the 2023 senior class will be recognized.
