CARROLLTON, Ga. – The 10th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team notched its second consecutive season-opening win with a 1-0 victory over West Georgia at the Wolves' University Soccer Field on Thursday. Thursday's game was the season-opener for both teams and moves Embry-Riddle to 1-0 and West Georgia to 0-1.
The Eagles had the better of the offense in the game with a 13-2 shot advantage and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Isabelle Navren and
Marie Myhrvold Seim both tested UWG goalie Haley Brinkman early in the first half, but Brinkman came up with two stops to keep the game scoreless at the end of the first 45 minutes of play.
The second half featured more Eagle dominance on the offensive end with ERAU outshooting the Wolves 6-0. The Eagles finally got the goal they needed in the 60th minute from the boot of
Grace Foyer.
The play started in the back with
Thea Nyberg completing a pass to Navren running down the right flank. Navren found Myhrvold Seim on the right side of the six-yard box and the senior squared a pass to
Savanna Sheahan on the left side of the box. Sheahan's first touch found Foyer streaking through the middle of the box and the junior slotted home her first goal of the year to give the Blue and Gold the 1-0 victory.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Columbus for a top-10 duel against third-ranked Columbus State.
