SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team suffered its second Sunshine State Conference loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to Saint Leo 1-0 on the road. The loss drops the Eagles' overall record to 7-4-2 and their SSC record to 3-2-2, while Saint Leo improved 7-3-2 on the year and 3-2-1 in league play.
The Eagles found themselves behind early as a defensive miscue led to a Lions' goal just over two minutes into the contest. On paper, the Eagles were the better team in the first half with an 8-4 advantage in shots, a 3-2 edge in shots on goal, and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. However, the statistical advantage did not translate to success on the scoreboard as the Lions carried the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The second 45 minutes featured more of the same with Embry-Riddle owning more of the possession and putting themselves in a position to score. But while they outshout the Lions 6-2 in the second frame, the Eagles lacked the finishing touch and departed Saint Leo with the 1-0 loss.
The Eagles' time on the road continues on Saturday when they make the short drive to Winter Park to face Rollins at 7 p.m.
