Eagles Battle Mocs to Tie

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team (4-7-3, SSC 2-5-2) faced off against Florida Southern (3-5-3, SSC 1-5-2) in a crucial match as the Eagles approached the end of the season. With playoff aspirations on the line, the Eagles entered the match with a strong determination for success, however, their determination didn't pay off with the final score being 0-0.

From the opening whistle, the Eagles found themselves on the defensive. Florida Southern's Henry Dakota tested the Eagles early, taking the first shot just two minutes into the game. The Eagles responded with their first opportunity five minutes later when Tom Shepherd unleashed a shot from outside the box, though it sailed high. This initial chance sparked the Eagles, who quickly became more aggressive, registering three shots, one of which came on target from Sandro Henning.

Defense was the theme of the first half, with both teams showcasing their best. Captain Andy Patterson was crucial for the Eagles, leading the defense and helping maintain a scoreless tie as they headed into halftime at 0-0.

As the second half unfolded, both teams continued to struggle to penetrate each other's defenses. The Eagles ramped up their offensive efforts, taking eight shots compared to just four in the first half, with two of those efforts on goal, all credited to Henning. Meanwhile, the Eagles' backline remained strong, allowing only one shot on goal from the Mocs throughout the half. Despite the heightened activity and late attempts, neither team could break the tie, and the match concluded with a final score of 0-0.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will wrap up their regular season with an away game against Nova Southeastern on Monday at 6 p.m., where they aim to finish strong.
