Barone Deals, Eagles Rake in 14-1 Victory at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – It didn't take long for the Embry-Riddle baseball team to light up the scoreboard on Tuesday night at Drysdale Field, as the Eagles used four runs in the first, four in the second and three in the third to race to a 14-1 victory over the Flagler Saints, the largest win for the Eagles in the series history.

ERAU (17-12) was bolstered in the win over Flagler (15-18) by three home runs on the night, including a pair of two-run homers from AJ Marinello and a three-run shot from Timo Aracena. Camden Traficante tallied five RBI in another multi-hit performance, while Matthew Coker and Drew Clymer each had a pair of base knocks and runs scored as well.

Junior righty John Barone was lights-out toeing the slab for the Eagles, going 5.2IP giving up just one run on five hits and two walks to three strikeouts. Barone didn't allow a hit between the second and fifth innings, with a walk representing the lone base runner in the midst of retiring 12 Saints batters in a row.

The Eagles scored their first run of the night from a single up the middle from Clymer that the center fielder misplayed, allowing Britton to score after drawing a one-out walk. Marinello had walked as well, so with two runners on, Aracena sent a shot deep to over the 20-foot Red Monster wall in right field, making it 4-0.

The Saints got their only offense off Barone in the bottom of the first, plating a run on three hits to make it 4-1, but it was over from there. ERAU scored four more in the second inning thanks to a two-RBI single from Traficante followed by a no-doubter from Marinello to deep left.

Then in the third, a Britton single scored backstopper Cameron Martinez before Traficante swung another single to the outfield to plate two more runners. With Barone firing on all cylinders, the Eagles didn't need to score more but they did.

After drawing walks, Coker and Britton each moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Then Traficante grabbed his fifth RBI of the night with a sac fly before Marinello rocketed another homer to left center over the wall.

Tristan Harley was brought on in the sixth inning with two out and a pair of runners in scoring position. He forced a grounder to end the inning and the threat. Following that, Dillon Moran worked the seventh, seeing four batters, striking out one to aid the Eagles in the 14-1 win.

Up next, ERAU stays on the road, but back in the SSC with a trip to Lynn on the docket.
