#9 Women’s Basketball Overpowers Saint Leo with Big Night on the Boards

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 9 Embry-Riddle women's basketball set even more all-time program top 10s against Saint Leo to begin Sunshine State Conference play. The Eagles grabbed 56 total rebounds, which is enough for 4th all-time in the record books, and putting up 75 shots, leading to a season high 87 points. 52 of those points came from in the paint, while also adding 36 points off the bench, including a game-high 20 points from Alyssa Brasko.

  • The Eagles were picked 9th in the latest WBCA Coaches' Poll (Nov. 18).
  • Embry-Riddle now leads the all-time series 13-7, including winning the last four matchups against the Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • Embry-Riddle forced the Lions into an early timeout after building up a 10-0 lead in the first four minutes.
  • Satchell scored the first 10 points of the game, and added another layup, as she single-handedly outscored Saint Leo in the opening quarter.
  • After grabbing 10 offensive rebounds throughout the quarter, the Eagles attempted 24 field goals and finished the period with an 18-8 lead. 
Second Quarter
  • ERAU more than doubled their lead in the second quarter, finishing the half up 41-18.
  • Saint Leo only made three field goals in the quarter, going 0-6 from three. Embry-Riddle went 9-for-20 from the field, including a three from Brasko.
  • In the first half, the Eagles won the offensive rebounding category 16-1, while also adding 14 points off of Saint Leo turnovers.
Third Quarter
  • The Eagles came out of the half on fire, shooting 67% from the field in the third quarter. They tied a season high with 27 points scored in the quarter.
  • Zoe O'Leary led the Lions with 16 points, including 11 points after the break.
  • Embry-Riddle ended the quarter on a 6-0 run, able to extend their lead to as much as 30 points, when they were up 66-36.
Fourth Quarter
  • During the final ten minutes, ERAU was able to give some valuable minutes to some freshman to start conference play.
  • Sydney Roufosse took full advantage of her opportunity, recording four points, five rebounds, and a pair of assists.
  • Maya Collins tacked on six points and six rebounds, while causing problems on defense. The freshman guard picked up a block and a steal in the game.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • The Eagles outrebounded the Lions 56-27, including 22 offensive rebounds, leading to 19 second chance points.
  • Embry-Riddle shot 20 more free throws than Saint Leo, knocking down 18 free throws as a team.
  • ERAU has now recorded 15 top-10 all-time marks in the first four games of the season.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will have a week off before they play their first road game of the season. Embry-Riddle will take on Valdosta State on Saturday, November 29, at 2 p.m. Valdosta State's last game was a 74-71 loss to Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday evening.
