ORLANDO, Fla. - Embry-Riddle women's basketball swept the weekly awards given out by the Sunshine State Conference this afternoon.
Laurie Satchell was named the Player of the Week and
Eliana Sheplee was named Defensive Player of the Week. Each player had at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in the Eagles 96-52 win over Barry on Saturday.
Satchell had 22 points and 13 rebounds, in a game where ERAU scored the most points against an SSC team in program history. The Elkridge, Maryland, product also provided the Eagles with two steals and two assists in the win. Satchell totaled her 22 points against Barry by shooting 75% from the field (9-12). The senior led the contest in rebounds during her 23 minutes on the court, with eight of her 13 rebounds coming on the offensive end. This was Satchell's first SSC weekly award of the season.
Sheplee led the team with 25 points, but also grabbed 11 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards, and picked up three steals during the Eagles' lone game of the week. Her rebounding helped the Blue and Gold win the battle on the glass 44-21, while also forcing the Buccaneers into 27 turnovers. The weekly award is her second this season, after she was named Player of the Week on November 24.
Embry-Riddle has now earned four SSC weekly player honors this season. It marked the second time the Eagles swept the awards, as Sheplee and
Mary Lengemann claimed the honors on Nov. 24.
