Long Ball Key in Baseball’s 13-4 Win Over Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday. The Eagles bounced back from a tough loss to Montevallo on Friday, using a pair of big innings to defeat the Falcons 13-4 at Bob Reisener Field. Saturday's win was also Dave Therneau's first as the Eagles' head coach.

The Eagles hit homeruns in each of the first three innings and scored five runs each in the second and seventh frames. AJ Marinello, Max Kops and Elias Campbell recorded two hits apiece and Kops had four RBIs.

Kegan Perez entered the game in the fifth and scattered two runs on four hits with six strikeouts in four innings of work to earn his first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Inning
• Marinello made a statement in his first trip to the plate sending the first offering from Zach Wyatt over the left field fence to put the Eagles up 1-0.
• The bottom half of the inning saw Greg Bruno work out of a bases-loaded jam to keep the Falcons off the board.

Second Inning
• A walk and a hit by pitch help put runners in scoring position for the Eagles to start the second.
Robert Post scored on an error that put Campbell on first and Alex Imposimato on third.
• Kops stepped up to the plate and hit a homerun of his own to give the Blue & Gold a 6-0 lead.

Third Inning
• The homerun trend continued for the Blue & Gold in the third as Collin Mastromauro hit a two-run shot to right field to make the score 8-0.

Sixth Inning
• The Falcons got a pair of homeruns of their own in the sixth to cut the Eagle lead to 8-3.

Seventh Inning
• Embry-Riddle responded with a five-run seventh inning with all five runs coming with two outs.
• Two base hits and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for the Eagles.
• The Falcons attempted to thwart the two-out rally with a pitching change, but a wild pitch brought Imposimato across the plate.
• Marinello hit a two-RBI double to score Mastromauro and Elias Campbell and Kops pushed Marinello and Matthew Coker across with a triple down the right field line to make it 13-3 in favor of ERAU.

Ninth Inning
• Montevallo tried to mount a rally of their own in the bottom of the ninth, but with the bases loaded, Spencer Marinac recorded a strikeout and Justin Webster came in to get back-to-back strikeouts of his own for the final out of the game.
