Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Florida Southern 2-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Embry-Riddle (5-4-4, 1-4-2) lost to Florida Southern (5-0-8, 2-0-5) 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The momentum of the game went back-and-forth throughout the night as the teams spent a majority of the contest with the score tied. In total, the Eagles put two of their six shots on goal and made three saves, while Florida Southern finished with 11 shots and five on goal.

First Half
Florida Southern started the game on the front foot as they took each of the first six shots of the game across the first 20 minutes. They were rewarded for their pressure after Kyleigh Cilento provided an assist from the left wing to Addyson Denecour in the 14th minute to open the scoring. Cilento had hit the crossbar less than a minute earlier along with having a shot saved at 11:15 by Stella Roane. However, ERAU quickly grew into the game after the Mocs' opener and found themselves back level on the scoreboard at 26:31 when Ebba Fjordskaer was one-on-one with the FSC goalkeeper after being picked out with a great pass from Lisa Elowsson. That goal was the fifth of the season for the freshman, Fjordskaer, and takes her to 11 career points. The Moccasins did not attempt another shot in the half after the 17th minute as the Blue and Gold then tried to take the lead, but shots from Lauryn Mateo and Agnes Vigholm both missed the target.

Second Half
Vigholm began the second 45 minutes with another shot in the opening minute, forcing a save from Carly Brodsky. After nearly 40 minutes without a shot, Florida Southern had back-to-back shots in a 15-second span from Allie Draper and Aliya Roberts but neither shot troubled Roane. Ebba Fjordskaer had the final shot of the night for the Eagles at 71:41, but saw her effort blocked before it could reach Brodsky. Rilee Hasegawa scored the game-winning goal at 77:21 after her free kick from a little over 20 yards out took a big deflection off of the wall of ERAU players and wrong-footed Roane. Neither team managed another shot following Hasegawa's goal, as the midfield battle that defined the night continued over the final 13 minutes.
