ORLANDO, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference named Embry-Riddle's
Marcos da Silva its Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after the senior goalkeeper helped lead the Eagles to a pair of clean sheets and an unbeaten week across two conference matches. Da Silva has now received the honor three times this season, making him the only player in the SSC to earn a weekly award on three occasions and the only goalkeeper in the league to be recognized multiple times.
da Silva anchored an ERAU back line that did not give up a goal across 180 minutes of action, finishing the week with six saves and a 1-0-1 record. He opened the week with a four-save performance on the road in a 0-0 draw against No. 5 Florida Southern, becoming the first player this season to shutout the Mocs who came in to the night averaging 2.8 goals per contest. The Brazilian followed that effort up with another clean sheet against Saint Leo, stopping both shots on goal he faced to secure all three points and a 1-0 victory for the Blue and Gold.
With just one week left in the regular season, da Silva has established himself as one of the conference's top goalkeepers, leading the SSC in goals-against average (0.77), save percentage (.821), and shutouts (5).
