Embry-Riddle Nabs First Win of the Season in Dominant Fashion

The Eagles dominated from the plate in a 14-4 victory over the Bobcats

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The bats were hot in Sliwa Stadium and the Eagles were hungry for a win. After a demonstrative six spot in the first, the Blue and Gold sailed towards victory with a 14-4 win over Georgia College & State to even the series at one win apiece.

Embry-Riddle was firing on all cylinders with each of the nine starters registering at least one hit, and right-handed pitcher JD Bryan notching the win with only two runs and six hits allowed across five innings of work.

ALL-TIME SERIES:
  • Embry-Riddle picked up their first win in the all-time series

  • Freshman batter Diego Hornedo recorded his first collegiate hit
  • Francisco Feliciano led the Eagles with three hits, improving to 12 hits on the season

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Inning:
  •  The Bobcats' Evan Cowan set the tone for a tough competition with a lead-off double through the left side
  • Cowan came around to score the first run of the game on a muffed throw 
  • Cole Bullen drew a walk to put a runner at first
  • Corn belted a double to left field to put the go-ahead run in scoring position at second and advance Bullen to third
  • Drew Clymer grounded to the third-basemen but reached first on the fielder's choice, however, the throw to the catcher to get the runner in Bullen out at home was off-line, allowing both Bullen and Corn to score on the error and Clymer to advance to second. This allowed the Eagles to take the lead and place another runner in scoring position.
  • Clymer came around to score the third run for Embry-Riddle off a single from Daytona State transfer Derek Lopez
  • Max McClusky dribbled a single up the middle to put to runners on base
  • Both McClusky and Lopez advanced on a wild pitch, putting two runs in scoring position for the Eagles
  • Hornedo drew a walk to load the bases
  • Feliciano knocked in a single to score both Lopez and McClusky, improving the Eagles lead to four runs
  • Aiden Schmidt kicked in a double to center-field to score Hornedo off second and establish a 6-1 lead for Embry-Riddle
4th Inning:
  • The Bobcats' Blake Bellflower recorded a single to second base to put a runner on base for Georgia College and State
  • Bellflower came around to score the second run for the Bobcats off a double from Keagan Baxter
  • In the bottom of the inning, Corn responded to the run scored by the Bobcats with a lead-off double
  • Lopez drew a walk to place to runners on base for the Eagles
  • McClusky drew a hit-by-pitch to load the bases 
  • Hornedo drew his second walk of the day to bring in the seventh run for Embry-Riddle
  • Feliciano ripped a triple to score Lopez, McClusky, and Hornedo giving the Eagles a 10-2 lead
  • Schmidt drew a walk to place runners on the corners
  • Bullen hit an RBI single up the middle to score Feliciano off third and improve the Eagles' lead to nine 
6th Inning:
  • Ty Petrovich hit a lead-off single to put a runner at first for the Bobcats
  • Randy Besterman followed up with a single of his own to push Petrovich into scoring position
  • Baxter drew a walk to load the bases for Georgia College and State
  • Cole Huddleston launched a single to center-field to score Petrovich and Besterman, cutting Embry-Riddle's lead down to seven
  • In the bottom of the inning, Feliciano drew a walk to reach first
  • Feliciano then advanced to second off a wild pitch
  • Colin Mastromauro, a defensive substitution for second-baseman Schmidt, cleared a single to center-field to score Feliciano off second
  • Bullen drew a walk to push Mastromauro into scoring position
  • Both Bullen and Mastromauro advanced a base on a passed ball
  • Corn drew a walk on a wild pitch that scored Bullen and Mastromauro, and reestablished the Eagles' nine run lead
  • Corn came around to score the 14th run for Embry-Riddle off a single to center-field from Clymer

No run-rule was in effect for game one of the double-header between Georgia College and State and Embry-Riddle. So, despite the Eagles having a 10 run lead after seven innings of play, the game went full. However, no runs were scored after the seventh inning.
