Embry-Riddle Takes Doubleheader Against Hillsdale

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle softball hosted Hillsdale on Friday evening for a non-conference doubleheader in Daytona Beach.

The Eagles won game one in walk-off fashion and followed up with a run-rule victory in game two, sweeping the Chargers to move to 15-13 on the season.

  • Embry-Riddle holds a 7-2 record against Hillsdale with all nine games being played at home in Daytona Beach.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hillsdale was knocking on the door early, but the Eagles held strong defensively as they forced the Chargers to leave the bases loaded in the first inning.
  • The guests put together back-to-back singles to open the game and added a third after a pair of fielder's choice outs before Shelby Morse struck out a batter to close the frame.
  • After three scoreless innings and minimal offensive production between either team, the Chargers took a 1-0 advantage with a leadoff homer in the fourth.
  • Hillsdale recorded two more singles and left a pair stranded as well.
  • Embry-Riddle returned in the bottom half of the fourth with a leadoff homer as well with Kendall Wilkie blasting one over the right-field wall to tie the game.
  • Six quick outs followed in the fifth inning before Hillsdale scored in the sixth for the 2-1 lead, thanks to a hit and an error.
  • ERAU walked-off the game in the seventh with a two-RBI single from pinch hitter Gianna Domenici to win 3-2.

  • The Eagles led 9-2 in hits, highlighted by a grand slam from Wilkie to help plate nine runs in a shortened five-inning contest.
  • ERAU struck first in the bottom of the opening frame with an RBI groundout from Wilkie to score Oberkehr.
  • Embry-Riddle notched two hits and left a pair stranded to close the inning.
  • Hillsdale leveled the game with a leadoff double and a sacrifice flyout in the second inning.
  • The Eagles produced three hits to plate three runs in the second as Wood doubled to score two followed by an RBI single from Wilkie, taking a 4-1 edge.
  • After a scoreless third inning, ERAU exploded for five runs thanks to four hits and a pair of miscues from the Chargers.
