WINTER PARK, Fla. — Embry-Riddle (5-0-4, 1-0-2) pushed their unbeaten streak to nine games to begin the season as they defeated Rollins 1-0 (5-3, 2-1) on the road on Wednesday evening. ERAU withstood 13 shots from the Tars on the night including a penalty kick at 26:41 and earned their fourth clean sheet in the last five games. The lone goal of the game came at 50:22 when
Calli Berrang placed her shot past the keeper from outside the box after a quick layoff from
Lauryn Mateo found the freshman in plenty of space. Rollins had five shots in the final 10 minutes but the Eagles' back line blocked four of the shots and did not require
Stella Roane to make a save.
First Half
The game got off to a quick start with Roane and Lauren Mehos each required to make a save in the first eight minutes of the night. Roane had recorded three saves in the opening 20 minutes and then faced a penalty kick from Emma McMurry but the Tars put the shot high and wide from the penalty spot.
Eve Tiktikakis had the last chance of the half at 38:10 for the Blue and Gold but couldn't force a save from Mehos as the first half ended scoreless.
Second Half
Berrang scored the game's opening goal at 50:22 with the opening shot of the half, which was the first goal of her career. Mateo and
Agnes Vigholm were each credited with an assist after Vigholm advanced the ball past midfield, found Mateo in the center of the field, who flicked it on for Berrang and saw her take a shot from 20 yards out that beat Mehos. ERAU continued to pile on the pressure after the opening goal with three shots and two corner kicks in a six-minute stretch from 63:33 to 69:40 that saw Berrang nearly score a second goal before being denied by the left post. Embry-Riddle only conceded one shot on target in the second half when McMurry saw her effort saved by Roane at 78:55.
