DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Embry-Riddle (4-0-1) closed out their five-game home stand with a 2-0 defeat of Alabama-Huntsville (2-2-0) on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first 45 minutes, ERAU scored twice in the second half of a dominant performance, holding a 17-4 advantage in shots. This was the fourth consecutive win for the Blue and Gold, with the team having scored at least twice in each of the four matches.

 

The Eagles came out on the front foot, recording the first shot of the match when Berglind Thrastardottir sent an attempt over the crossbar in the seventh minute. Alabama-Huntsville responded with a pair of shots in the opening 18 minutes, but neither tested the ERAU goalkeeper. From there, the Chargers spent much of the half pinned in their defensive third as the Eagles continued to apply pressure. Ebba Fjordskaer and Thrastardottir each forced Kacey Powell into saves within a 30-second span, but the UAH goalkeeper kept the match scoreless. ERAU finished the half with a 6-2 advantage in shots, while 22 Alabama-Huntsville players saw the field in the first half as they worked to withstand the Eagles' pressure.

 

ERAU continued to control the game in the second half as they took the first nine shots of the half and eventually opened the scoring in the 67th minute. Kacey Powell had made seven total saves before Lauryn Mateo eventually beat her with a header off of a corner kick from Thrastardottir, marking Mateo's second consecutive game with a goal. As the Chargers looked sent more numbers forward in search of an equalizer, the Eagles capitalized to make it 2-0 in the 79th minute. Eve Tiktikakis switched the ball to the right side for Bailey Springman, and the sophomore transfer found Fjordskaer through on goal with her first touch. This goal made it two consecutive games that Fjordskaer has scored as well. Springman and Tiktikakis each recorded their first assists of the season as the Blue and Gold finished off the 2-0 win without giving up a shot on goal in the 90 minutes.

 

- Mateo is now tied for sixth in program history for game-winning goals in a career with 11.

- Fjordskaer recorded a career high in shots (5) and shots on goal this afternoon (4).

- In addition to her two shots, Thrastardottir provided an assist in her second consecutive game.

- Springman and Tiktikakis earned their first career points with the Blue and Gold having each been credited with an assist on Fjordskaer's goal.

- Ria Vlachos made her first start of the season, playing a season-high 56 minutes.

 

The Eagles will have their first road game of the season on Wednesday, September 9, when they travel to Lakeland, Fla., to face Florida Southern in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
