ERAU Sports Marketing Honored at NACMA Awards Banquet

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle University Athletics Marketing Department took home two awards at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) convention in Anaheim, Calif., last Wednesday. The Eagles won a Gold and one Silver in the 2009-10 NACMA “Best of” Awards national contest.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations. More than 650 entries were received for the 2009-10 year.

Embry-Riddle earned the  Gold Award in the Electronic Promotion category for the soon to be released iPhone application, the iFlock. The app will provide the Eagle faithful with scoring updates, updates all social media aspects of ERAU Athletics, as well as provide motivational sayings from Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Steve Ridder. The application was designed by the Sports Marketing Department and was coded by Embry-Riddle graduate students Alex King and Adrian Prieto.

The Eagles’ Silver Award came in the T-shirt Design category for the Save The Rivalry basketball game against Flagler College. The Eagles played host to their long time rival for the last time and students were given black t-shirts with Coach Ridder’s likeness on them in blue with gold letters spelling: Beat Flagler.

This is not the first time Eagle Athletics has earned recognition for its work in sports marketing. In previous years, the Eagles have garnered nine additional NACMA honors, including five previous Gold awards.
