13 Ryan Moate

  • Position Goalkeeper
  • Class Senior

Biography

Moate is in his first season as the Eagles' athletic program as the goalkeeping coach of both the men's and women's soccer teams.

Moate transferred to Embry-Riddle from Penn State where he helped the Nittany Lions to the 2002 Big Ten title. He posted a 4-6 record with a 2.01 goals against average and had 27 saves in 896 minutes to earn honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition. Moate recorded his first career shutout on Sept. 22, 2002 and the following day was named the Big Ten Player of the Week and the Penn State Athlete of the Week.

Described by men's soccer coach David Gregson as a quick and agile player with good hands and very clean technique, Moate was on the Eagles' roster for two seasons. As a junior in 2004, the Lancaster, Penn. native led the squad in shutouts (3) and saves (32) and finished the season with a 0.95 goals against average in nine starts between the posts.

“Moatey has a gift for teaching the position he excelled at as a player. His effect on our goalkeepers has been exceptional and immediate,” said women’s soccer coach Dan Blank.

But in 2005, Moate was unable to overcome a series of injuries that had plagued him throughout his career. He was forced to spend his senior season on the sidelines and saw minimal action in only one game.

Moate is currently working toward his undergraduate degree in Aeronautical Science.
