Embry-Riddle Director of Athletics John Phillips announced the hiring of Spencer Phillips as the Eagles’ Head Strength and Conditioning Coach on Oct. 4.
Philips came to Embry-Riddle from nearby Stetson where he spent five years as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning. A two-time Stetson Athletics Staff Member of the Year, Phillips was responsible for creating strength and conditioning programs for men’s basketball, indoor and beach volleyball, tennis soccer and rowing. Phillips has worked with all 19 sport programs at Stetson and was part of a staff that saw a 60 percent reduction in injuries within the first two years of his arrival.
Prior to going to Stetson, Phillips was a Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Florida International University where he designed and implemented programs for soccer, swing, diving, cross country and track and field, and worked with football.
Phillips was a strength and conditioning intern at his alma mater Indiana University for 3.5 years. He earned his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology majoring in Fitness Specialty at Indiana and holds a master’s degree in Physical Education: Sport & Fitness from Florida International.
