No. 13 Eagles Register 1-0 Upset Over No. 3 Lindsey Wilson

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The final statistics showed the 13th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's soccer team with only one shot on goal, but that was all the Eagles needed to record a 1-0 upset victory over defending national champions Lindsey Wilson on Saturday. The win boosted the Eagles to 9-3 on the year, while the third-ranked Blue Raiders fell to 10-3.

The win was especially memorable for the seven seniors who played in their final regular season match at home as they helped the Eagles record the program's first win against Lindsey Wilson as freshmen at the national tournament in 2003.

Despite a fiercely contested first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Eagles' best opportunity of the half came in the 26th minute when Joe Yoffe tried to finish a ball that was floated into the box. But Yoffe collided with starting Lindsey Wilson keeper Glen Fox, and as a result, the ball sailed high and Fox was forced to leave the game with an injury.

The game's lone goal came in the 56th minute after Jimmie Berry played a ball to Peter Masters running down the left side. Masters outran his defenders and got a cross off to Yoffe in the box. Yoffe settled the ball with his first touch, spun away from his defender and rifled a shot into the upper right corner to put the Eagles up 1-0.

In addition to having to battle back from being a goal down, the Blue Raiders found themselves down a man after Scott Blandford received a red card in the 74th minute.

Lindsey Wilson continued to pressure, but the Eagle defenders came up with some big plays and the offense kept possession to stave off the attack and preserve the win.

Ian Levine went the distance in the nets for the Eagles. His six saves on the night helped ERAU hand the Blue Raiders their first shutout since 2004.

The Eagles return to action at 3 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to West Palm Beach to take on Lynn.
