PHILOSOPHY
Embry-Riddle University Strength and Conditioning program is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our student-athletes by providing a training atmosphere dedicated to: hard work, discipline, accountability, humility and unity. Our primary goal is to develop an injury resistant, explosive, and mentally tough student athlete by designing and implementing research based, sport specific programs that will allow them to succeed in all of their endeavors.

Training Principles:
Pre-habilitation Exercises: Based off individual movement screen scores, these exercises are used to strengthen vulnerable joints, activate synergistic muscles, prevent overuse injuries, create muscle balance, and correct movement patterns.

Ground Based Movements: Ground based force production is crucial to athletic performance. The greater force produced against the ground, the faster the athlete will run and the higher they will jump. From this, the majority of our movements will be trained with our feet on the ground.

Rate of Force Development Training:  We train explosively with free weights, plyometrics, medicine balls, and bands. Utilizing post activation potentiation, resistance, and over speed training to develop fast twitch muscle fibers.

Multiple Joint Movements: We don’t only train muscles to become a better athletes but to also improve movement quality. Athletes must learn to coordinate multiple joints movements in order to move efficiently in their sport and to prevent injuries.

Multi-Planar Movements: Training programs will emphasize movements in all planes that the athlete will experience in their sport. This helps prevent injuries and increases the transfer of our strength to the actual sport being played.

Energy System Training: We incorporate yearlong, sport specific, energy system training to improve endurance and performance for competition.

Periodization: Utilizing comprehensive yearlong training cycle’s specific to the sport and the maturity of individual allows for proper progression and improved performance throughout their career.

Recovery: Practice and competitions relentlessly break down the body. We utilize proven recovery techniques as well as our athletic training and nutrition staff to equip our student athletes with the tools they need to recover faster, remain injury free, and maximize their daily performance.
