Cobb Hits Six Three-Pointers to lead No. 6 Embry-Riddle to 67-36 Victory Against Mary Washington

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Although it was new temporary home surroundings with the game shifted to Seabreeze High School after the Christmas day tornado rendered the ICI Center unplayable, the No. 6 Embry-Riddle University men's basketball team looked like they had played at Joe Nelson Gymnasium for years. ERAU jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game hitting five of their first six shots including five three-pointers by Denver Cobb. This surge set the tone for game as the Blue and Gold finished the night converting 60.4 percent from the field and went on to prevail 67-36 against NCAA Division III Mary Washington (Va.).

Cobb finished the night with 20 points to lead all scorers hitting 7-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from downtown. Denny Joseph added 12 points and Tyler DeBord and Nick Miller chipped in 10 apiece.

ERAU (11-2) pushed the lead to 19 with 7:08 remaining in the opening half and went to the break with a 34-13 advantage. Although Cobb and the rest of the Eagle offense was clicking on all cylinders, what was even more impressive was the fact that the ERAU defense held a team that entered the game with a 44.3 team shooting percentage to just 20.6 percent on the night (13-for-63) and just 16.1 percent in the first half building the 21-point advantage. The defensive pressure stifled the Mary Washington (7-2) long-range shooting limiting UWM to just 11.4 percent from beyond the arc on the night (4-for-35) and to just 5.3 percent in the opening half (1-for-19).

ERAU resumes action tomorrow against Lebanon Valley which defeated Penn State-Behrend 56-48 in today's first game of the Land of Magic Classic.
