DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The ERAU women's soccer team held in for 92+ minutes Thursday night against Eckerd College, defeating the Tritons 1-0 in overtime.
Lindsey Evans knocked in the game-winning goal for the Eagles (6-6, 2-1 Florida Sun Conference). Evans sent the ball in from well outside the box 2:27 into overtime off of a pass from Mandy Drummond. The goal sealed the third-straight victory for the Eagles and marked the second time this season ERAU nabbed an overtime victory.
The game was a battle and the Tritons (0-13) were gritty, notching 16 fouls to the four committed by the Eagles.
Embry-Riddle had the corner kick advantage on the night, taking four corner kicks while Eckerd was awarded just one.
The Eagles outshot the Tritons 12 to 8 with Elina Johannson taking a game-high six shots, three of which were on goal.
Stephanie Taylor was in goal for the Eagles for the 92+ minutes, compiling five saves and earning the shutout.
Before tonight, each team had been into overtime only once this season. Eckerd fell to West Georgia 2-3 in overtime while Embry-Riddle downed Flagler in overtime by a score of 2-1.
Embry-Riddle will play another non-conference game this Saturday at home against Berry College (8-4-2) at 7 p.m. The Eagles play their last regular season home game on Tuesday Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. against FSC foe Webber International (5-6, 1-3 FSC).
