St. Francis Brought Down by Eagles Serving

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle Eagles won a quick three-game match against the St. Francis Saints marking 12 aces in the match, which was the first of two matches on Saturday, October 13 (30-25, 30-19, 30-25).

ERAU moves to 11-9 overall, while St. Francis tallies the loss for a record of 17-15. St. Francis will face Flagler College at 3:30 p.m. at the ICI Center.

The Eagles went up 22-13 in game one before the Saints began a comeback, capitalizing on ERAU hitting errors and the arm of Jack Fletcher the were able to move back to within two at 24-22. Marissa Gonzales served an ace for the Eagles and the game was closed on an attack by Alana Martinez who notched four kills in game one.

St. Francis stayed even with Embry-Riddle in the beginning of match two, until Jenni Neslen went to the service line and served an ace, tallying the next four points to put the Eagles in the lead 9-5. This was the sixth consecutive match that Nelsen has charted at least one ace, she had three in the match. The Eagle lead was extended to 15-9 when the Saints again made an attempt to comeback moving the score to 12-15, before the Eagles took a timeout. After the minute break Martinez killed the next set and put the ball back in the hands of the Eagles servers, who closed game two 30-19.

ERAU took game three 30-25, marking six aces in the final game. Gonzales marked four service aces in the match, with 32 assists and six digs. Janelle Marinos led the Eagles attackers, with 15 kills hitting .280. She also had nine digs and one ace. Martinez ended the night with ten kills, six digs and three of each assists and aces.

Embry-Riddle will host Flagler College at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
