SAVANNAH, GA. ? The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team snapped a six-game losing skid with a 2-0 shutout of No. 21 Savannah College of Art & Design in Florida Sun Conference action on Wednesday. Both goals came in the last 12 minutes of play, lifting the Eagles to 4-7-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the league play. The Bees, who had won the previous three meetings against the Eagles, fell to 9-4 overall and 4-3-1 in the FSC.
"It's nice to finally end the losing streak," head coach
David Gregson said. "We finally got a result that merited the performance. Hopefully, we can build on this and use this as a platform to get better as the postseason nears."
The first goal of the match came in the 79th minute when
Hugh Davey's corner kick found
Sam Litchfield in the box. Litchfield's header beat SCAD goalkeeper Tommi Sarkkinen to the far post to put the Eagles up 1-0.
Just five minutes later,
Michael Scott was pulled down in the 18-yard box and the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick.
Joe Yoffe converted on the penalty kick with his team-high seventh goal of the season to seal the win.
Sarkkinen pulled in seven saves as did
Ian Levine who recorded his first shutout of the season.
The Eagles next match will be against NCAA II Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale.
