Eagles Season Ends at the Hands of the Warriors

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Webber International Warriors ended the Embry-Riddle Eagles season on Friday, November 16 as they took the hard fought four-game match in the semi-final round of the Region XIV Tournament (26-30, 31-29, 30-28, 30-25).

The Eagles took an early 8-2 lead in game one, but WIU fought back coming to with in two at 28-26. A kill by Alana Martinez and a service ace by Marissa Gonzales sealed the first game, 30-26.

ERAU took an 11-3 lead in game two, but were unable to hold onto the lead as Florida Sun Conference and Region XIV Player of the Year, Cindy Eurie led the Warriors back into the game and into the lead at 23-22. As Webber took game two 31-29, it sparked the back and forth battle for points, keeping the next two games close. WIU wrapped up their victory by taking games three and four.

The Eagles were unable to match their top hitting performance earlier in the day, when they topped Warner Southern, hitting only .135 against the Warriors. Savannah Trakes led the team in kills marking 13, she also had 14 digs and a service ace. Gonzales had two of each kills and aces while dishing out 44 assists. Lauren Anastase and Corey Dobridnia wrapped up the double-digit attackers with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Eurie led the Warriors with 19 kills, 27 digs and three block assists. She was assisted primarily by Danelle Wagner who had 61 assists in the match. Outside hitter, Nikia DeRiggs had 14 kills for WIU.

This is the secon dyear in a row that Webber knocked Embry-Riddle out of the Region XIV Tournament in the semi-final round. The Eagles end their season with a 17-16 overall and 10-4 FSC record.
