DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sophomore Alex Salinas led the flock of the Embry-Riddle Eagle women's cross country runners to their second consecutive Florida Sun Conference and Region XIV championship on Saturday, leaving the competition in the dust with six of the top ten runners.
Salinas came in second overall charting a time of 20:08.23, nearly thirty seconds better than her time recorded on the course at the ERAU Smoothie King Invitational on Sept. 22. She was followed shortly after by Noelle Niblack and Beth McCubbin, in third and fourth with times of 20:31.15 and 20:33.38, respectively. Lori Costello, Katrina Morgan and Fracesca Martino rounded out the top ten for ERAU. Costello placed sixth in 20:39.81, Morgan came in seventh at 20:59.66 and Martino was tenth at 21:26.88. Salinas, Niblack, McCubbin, Costello and Morgan were named to the All-FSC team, as well as joining Martino as All-Region selections.
Jen Haydt, Emily Cook, Erika Langhauser and Kimber Wille also competed for the Eagles. Taking thirteenth, fifteenth, seventeenth and twenty-first overall. Haydt improved her course time by 1:00.53, while Wille ran a season best 23:32.30.
The Eagles earned 22 points, 40 less than second place team, Webber International. WIU had the top finisher on their team, Juline Brice at 19:40.08. Brice was named the female Region XIV Runner of the Year. Webber also had the fifth place runner, Deborah Reibach in at 20:34.97. Both Webber Runners were named to the All-FSC and All-Region teams. Warner Southern placed third with 72 points, with Tranese Boston placing eighth at 21:08.68. Warner edged out SCAD for third, scoring four less points than the Bees. Jordan Kaltwasser of SCAD, rounded out the top ten, placing ninth at 21:20.27. Florida Memorial and Edward Waters rounded out the team scoring, in fifth at 146 and sixth at 148, respectively.
The top ten finishers are members of the All-Region team, as well as the top seven making the All-FSC team. They include:
