DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's basketball team improved its overall record to 10-0 with a 94-71 win over Roberts Wesleyan, Monday at the ICI Center. The Eagles are off to their best start since the 2000-01 season when they won their first 11 contests en route to a 32-4 overall record.
Eric Lorenzi and Tyler DeBord each had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, who matched their season scoring average. Rocky Pierre added 10 points and dished out six assists, while William Benjamin gave the Eagles valuable minutes off the bench with nine points and six boards.
The Eagles scored the first basket of the game and after allowing six Raider points, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to take an 18-6 lead four minutes into the game. Roberts Wesleyan managed to get within nine points, but the Blue and Gold went on another run at the 13:06 mark and outscored the Raiders 18-3 over the next six minutes to take a 56-28 lead into the locker room at the half.
In the second half, the Raiders' Brandon Jones exploded for 16 of his game-high 22 points, but it was not enough to catch the Eagles who led by as many as 31 points before closing out the game at 94-71.
The Eagles take a 10-day break for the holidays and will return to action Dec. 28-29 in the Land of Magic Classic at the ICI Center. They face Hobart at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 28 and St. Lawrence at 8 p.m. on Dec. 29
