DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team improved to 3-0 in Florida Sun Conference action with a 9-0 victory over St. Thomas, Thursday at Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles swept each match in straight sets to improve to 3-1 overall.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead after doubles play. First off the court was the duo of Sean Winbauer and Blake Hollis who blanked STU's Perez and Longdallon 8-0 at the No. 3 position. Tomaki Yasuda and Luke Maricic followed with an 8-1 win over Paredes and Gonzalez, and Carlos Bes and Istvan Bolgar closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-2 decision at No.1.
Maricic was the first to finish his singles match, defeating Perez 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot. In his second match at No.1, Bes downed Turnquest 6-0, 6-1 and Bolgar clinched the match at No.3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Paredos. Hollis also bageled his opponent at No. 6, while Yasuda and Winbauer won 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
The Eagles return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Savannah, Ga. to take on conference rival, No. 8 Savannah College of Art and Design.
