No. 4 ERAU Men Topple No. 17 Rollins 9-0

WINTER PARK, Fla. ? The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team handed NCAA II No. 17 Rollins its first loss of the season with a 9-0 victory on Tuesday. The Eagles, fresh off their conference-clinching win over Savannah College of Art and Design on Saturday, improved their record to 5-1 on the year.

The Eagles established themselves early, winning all three doubles matches. Carlos Bes and Istvan Bolgar blanked Pablo Seijo and Michael Schwartz 8-0 at No. 2. Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov followed with an 8-3 win at No. 1 and Tomoaki Yasuda and Luke Maricic battled to an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot.

Bolgar was first off the court with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Albin Hubscher at No. 5 singles. The clincher came at the No. 4 spot when Yasuda's opponent, Gustavo Carvalho fell behind 6-4 and then retired due to injury.

“When we played Rollins last year, we lost 5-4 and one of the big reasons was we went down 3-0 in doubles,” head coach Dave Paschal commented. “So this year we put a lot of emphasis on coming out with a lot of energy in doubles. No. 2 doubles had an amazing match and No. 1 doubles played really well. We had a slow start at No. 3 and then at 4-3 our guys really turned it on and won the next five games. We just kept the momentum going into singles.”

The Eagles will face another NCAA II opponent at 10 a.m. on Saturday when they host No. 6 Barry at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
