DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team opened its 2007 campaign with a 9-0 win over conference foe Webber International, Friday at ERAU's Crotty Tennis Complex.
The Eagles swept through all three doubles matches, taking a 3-0 lead. The top-ranked duo of
Mislav Hizak and
Konstantin Lazarov battled to an 8-5 win over Ronnie Sang and Enrique Catter.
Carlos Bes and
Istvan Bolgar also won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, while
Tomoaki Yasuda and
Luke Maricic topped Radovan Mircic and Leigh Griffiths 8-3.
Top-ranked Hizak easily handled his opponent at No. 1 singles, defeating the 24th-ranked Catter 6-0, 6-0. Lazarov beat Christophe Bonadona 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot, and Bes dispatched Pete Lund 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
The Eagles return to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday when they host Lynn who is ranked second in the NCAA II preseason poll.
