DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? For the second straight match freshman Sara Abraul recorded the winning point as the fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team downed No. 14 Shorter 7-2 on Tuesday. The Eagles won two doubles points and five singles matches to improved their record to 6-5, while the Hawks fall to 4-9.
The Blue and Gold secured victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions as Hana Im and Kerinn Meisenbach downed Ailine Kmoch and Carolina Brigneti 8-5, and Marga Rico-Jimenez and Anna Haller put away Giuliana Luconi and Kristy Walker 8-1.
Im was the first singles player to record a win. After Im won the first set 6-1 and went up 2-0 in the second, her opponent, Lydie Ratsaraefadahy, was forced to retire due to an ankle sprain.
Meisenbach took an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Bregneti at No. 4 and Abraul scored the clincher with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the sixth spot.
It took three sets to decide the contest at No. 3 singles between Lindsey Kurtz and Kmoch, and in the end it was Kurtz who emerged victorious with a 4-6, 7-6, 10-4 win.
Rico-Jimenez sealed the Eagles' win with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Walker.
The Hawks got wins at No. 1 doubles as Ratsaraefaddhy and Carval topped Anaya and Kurtz 8-5, and at the second singles position as Carval bested Anaya 6-1, 6-3.
The Eagles will be back on the court at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow when they host No. 7 Berry at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
