DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The 11th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team rebounded from a loss on Saturday to topple No. 8 Southern Nazarene on Tuesday. The Eagles, who have defeated each of the last five ranked teams they've faced, improved their record to 9-6, while the Crimson Storm fell to 5-3 on the year.
The Eagles collected wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 three positions to take a 2-1 lead after doubles. Marga Rico-Jimenez and Sara Abraúl downed Heather Parnell and Brooke Ruder 8-4, and Natalie Anaya and Lindsey Kurtz topped the No. 21 duo of Dasha Ivanova and Isabella Bauer 8-6 at the top spot.
The Crimson Storm got a point back when Christy Greenly and Sara Byrne downed Hana Im and Kerinn Meisenbach 8-3 at the second position.
Rico-Jimenez and Abraúl made quick work of their opponents at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Rico-Jimenez defeated Parnell 6-2, 6-0 and Abraul topped Ruder 6-3, 6-0 to put the Eagles up 4-1.
SNU rallied to take wins at No. 3 and No. 4 as No. 25 Bauer won 6-3, 6-1 against No. 40 Kurtz and Byrne held off Meisenbach 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.
No. 28 Anaya clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win over No. 27 Ivanova at the second spot, and the Eagles' No. 1 player, ninth-ranked Im, sealed the victory with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 defeat of No. 47 Greenly.
The Eagles' will host NCAA I Rhode Island at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
