DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team improved its record to 6-1 with a 6-3 victory over NCAA I Xavier (Ohio) on Tuesday.
The Eagles started things off with a pair of wins in doubles at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Tomoaki Yasuda and Luke Maricic blanked Mike Dieciuc and Anthony Palmenter 8-0 at the third spot, while the top-ranked duo of Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov downed Doug Matthews and Jeremy Miller 8-4. The Musketeers got a win back at No. 2 as Ra'ees Ismail and JT Torbeck topped Carlos Bes and Istvan Bolgar 8-3.
First off the court in singles play was Bes who rebounded from the doubles loss to down Ismail 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Top-ranked Hizak easily dispatched Matthews 6-1, 6-0 at No.1 and Lazarov clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the second spot.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they take on Aquinas (Mich.) at home.
