No. 4 Embry-Riddle Downs No. 17 Aquinas

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team handed No. 17 Aquinas (Mich.) its first loss of the season as the Eagles downed the Saints 8-1, Wednesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The win improved the Eagles record to 7-1 overall, while the Saints fell to 2-1.

At the end of doubles play, the Eagles had a comfortable 3-0 lead. Tomoaki Yasuda and Luke Maricic recorded their second straight 8-0 win, blanking Tuan-anh Tran and Jason Beydoun at the No. 3 position. Top-ranked Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov followed with an 8-1 defeat of the sixth-ranked duo of Mike Rose and Pat Bruining and Carlos Bes and Istvan Bolgar closed out doubles action with an 8-4 victory over No. 23 Jordan O'Neill and Pat Grashorn.

Carlos Bes was the first off the court in singles after he bageled O'Neill 6-0, 6-0. Hizak was close behind as he also held No. 28 Rose scoreless to clinch the win.

The Saints' only singles win came at the No. 6 spot as Jason Beydoun held off Sean Winbauer 7-5, 2-6, 10-8.

The Embry-Riddle men return to the court at 3:30 p.m. on Friday when they host Concordia (N.Y.).
