No. 3 Men?s Tennis Soars Past Webber International into National Quarterfinals

MOBILE, Ala. ? The third-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team blanked Webber International 6-0 in their first match at the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center on Tuesday. The Eagles, who received a first-round bye by virtue of their No. 3 seeding, advanced to the national tournament quarterfinals for the fourth year in a row and will take on Vanguard (Calif.) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. ERAU and Vanguard faced each other earlier this season (Mar. 20) with the Eagles claiming an 8-1 victory.

ERAU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles points. The top-ranked duo of Mislav Hizak and Konstantin Lazarov downed Enrique Catter and Ronnie Sang 8-3 at No. 1, and Istvan Bolgar and Luke Maricic defeated Magnus Hansen and Radovan Mircic 8-4 at the third position.

The No. 2 doubles match was very closely contested and in the end Embry-Riddle's Carlos Bes and Tomoaki Yasuda pulled out the 9-8 victory over Christophe Bonadona and Cody Wright, winning 7-5 in the tie-breaker.

In singles action Hizak bageled Catter 6-0, 6-0 at the top spot, Yasuda defeated Pete Lund 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4, and Maricic dispatched Hansen 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 to seal the Eagle win.

The Eagles, who also defeated the Warriors in Florida Sun Conference action during the regular season, improved their overall record to 18-1, while the Warriors end their season at 15-8.
