Freshman Elina Johansson scored a pair of goals in her first collegiate game Thursday night as the Embry-Riddle women's soccer team fell to Lynn University 4-2.
ERAU opened its season at home on the grounds of the ERAU Soccer Stadium and didn't go down without a fight against the Fighting Knights, a NCAA Division II program.
Lynn was first to get on the board with a Molly Anderson goal in the 26th minute, but ERAU answered back less than three minutes later, thanks to Johannson. The newest member to the team knocked a goal in unassisted with 16:07 left in the half.
Johannson showcased her goal-scoring capabilities once again with 51 seconds remaining in the first half. Senior Valerie Rogers capitalized on a corner kick, booting the ball in to Johansson in front of the net. The freshman then slid it in past past Lynn's goalie, Natalie Feller.
ERAU entered halftime with a 2-1 lead but Lynn rallied, tying the game at 50:36 on another goal by Anderson. The go-ahead goal was scored by Brittany Evernden at 59:58 unassisted. The Fighting Knights scored one final goal just under the 82-minute mark.
Senior Stephanie Taylor was in goal for the Eagles and made four saves on the night.
Thursday night's game was also the debut for both members of ERAU's coaching staff, Head Coach Samantha Baggett and Assistant Coach Lyndsey Patterson.
The Eagles are back in action at home Monday night at 7 p.m. against Florida Tech. Embry-Riddle will then go on the road for a six-game stretch.
