Eagles Sent Home After Three Games in Season Opener

Palm Beach, Fla. ? A late third game rally was not enough to put the Eagles back into the running with Palm Beach Atlantic as the team suffered their first loss of the 2007 season on the road, at the hands of the Division II institution on Tuesday, August 28.

ERAU kept the suspense alive and the Sailfish on their toes during the first game, tying the game at 21. After a Marissa Gonzales service error, PBA pulled away. Defensive specialist, Jennifer Eldridge tallied five straight points for the Sailfish which included two aces putting them up 26-21. The Eagles never recovered as PBA's Ali Mitchell finished the game with a kill, final score 30-25.

The Sailfish took advantage of their momentum in the second game jumping to a 14-7 lead before Head Coach Joslynn Gallop took a time-out to attempt to get the Eagles back on track. The Eagles were unable to create the energy needed to take this game back, losing 30-18.

PBA jumped out to a big lead, going up 12-6 from big attacks by their middle hitter, Kristen Carroll. With the score at 29-22, the night was on the line as libero, Bridget Kirckof was on the service line for the eagles. Kirckof served four continuous points, aided by sophomore Savannah Trakes, whose huge kill in front of the ten-foot line seemed to get the Eagles back in the game. The Eagles came within three points of the Sailfish but did not have enough to chart a comeback as Carroll spiked the final kill, taking the match for PBA, 30-26.

Junior co-captain, Gonzales, charted 21 assists while charting 13 digs and a service ace. Both Trakes and senior co-captain Janelle Marinos charted eight kills, while serving two and one aces, respectively.

Carroll led the Sailfish, charting 15 kills and three service aces. Brittany Erickson marked 10 kills and three assists. Setter, Emiliy Ryerson assisted 31 kills during the three-game match.
